The Brunswick Lofts Team
Dedication. Expertise. Passion.

Any great project takes a village to properly plan, create, design, and build. The team behind The Brunswick Lofts is not only exceptional at what they do, they are true city builders, who are incredibly passionate about this project. What everyone from all the different companies and freelancers involved have in common is they love this development, everyone knows it is rare, they love the neighbourhood, and many of them live nearby. For them, this has been a special project and one they will always take great pride in.

THE DEVELOPER

The Kopas family has a rich history of involvement in the Canadian real estate sector for over eight decades. Harold Kopas, the patriarch, established the mortgage broking firm, Kopas and Burritt, which his son Don Kopas later took over and grew to become the largest independent brokerage firm in the country. Subsequently, the family shifted their focus to the acquisition and improvement of retail plazas across Canada. In January 2015, Don and his son Jeff established Kopas Developments Ltd to leverage their vast experience and expertise to venture into the commercial and residential sectors, with a primary focus on the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). Don retired in 2022 . Kopas Developments has extensive knowledge of various sizes and types of development. Over the years, the company has been actively involved in several kinds of projects, particularly those that involve the repurposing and revitalization of heritage and character buildings. These interventions have significantly boosted the usage options and value of the properties. The company's latest project, the Brunswick Lofts, is a testament to its vision and values. Creating a boutique condo building like 225 Brunswick is a rare opportunity, and the company holds this project in the highest esteem.

Suulin Architects

THE ARCHITECT

Suulin Architects joined the project two weeks after the building was purchased in April 2019, and has been involved in all stages of its planning and development. The firm was founded in 2014 by Amy Lin and James Chavel, and Valerie Arthur is the project lead. Suulin Architects believes in an integrative design approach that extends beyond the building and includes all of the elements of the site from architecture and landscape, down to furnishings and lighting. In their projects, they emphasize enhancing the connections to nature and raising awareness of the environment. The name "Suulin" means "forest" in Taiwanese, which reflects their commitment to the environment. Both Amy, James, and Valerie have over 25 years of experience in building design. Before working at Suulin Architects, Amy was an associate and senior designer at Ennead Architects (formerly Polshek Partnership Architects), where she worked on several high-profile projects including the Clinton Presidential Library, the NY Standard Hotel, and the Weill Cornell Medical College Research Building. James Chavel worked at Tod Williams Billie Tsien Architects, where he primarily worked on the Phoenix Art Museum Extension and Cheatham Residence. Suulin Architects is a Toronto-based firm with eight employees. They are licensed to practice in the provinces of Ontario, New York State, and Hawaii, and they are currently working on projects in Canada and the US. Amy is LEED and Passive House accredited in both Canada and the United States.
